We are beyond thrilled to share some news that we are very proud to be recognised for.
We've been awarded the Pact Packaging Sustainability Champion trophy at the 2026 New Zealand Ice Cream & Gelato Awards.
This means the absolute world to us because it validates something we have believed in from day one: that crafting exceptional artisan treats and deeply caring for our planet and community can, and must, go hand in hand.
Winning this award reflects our ongoing journey.

Here is a look at what we are doing across our business:
Environmental Considerations & Stewardship
Our environmental responsibility is a long-term commitment woven into every daily operational decision through our holistic "orchard-to-scoop" model:
-
Organic Agriculture: Through our 7-hectare organic fruit orchard in Central Otago, 100% organic growing practices with zero synthetic chemicals ensure rich soil health and protect neighbouring waterways.
-
Circular Zero-Waste Principles: To eliminate food waste, fruit not suitable for fresh export is upcycled directly into our artisan chocolates, gelato, and sorbets.
-
Packaging & Waste Reduction: All takeaway packaging is fully home-compostable, and we serve most ice cream in freshly made, handcrafted waffle cones. They’re not only delicious and edible but they help to reduce single-use waste.
-
Clean Energy & Low-Emission Transport: From adopting a New Zealand-made electric frost-fighting fan to utilising electric vehicles for local distribution, we are continually prioritising clean power and low-emission transport.
People, Community, and Ethical Connection
People and community form the very heartbeat of Patagonia Chocolates. We believe a truly viable business should uplift its workforce and enrich the people of its region:
-
Ethical Sourcing & Fair Trade: Beyond growing our own organic fruit, we maintain strict ethical procurement policies, partnering exclusively with suppliers who enforce fair labour practices and safe working conditions.
-
Team Development & Wellbeing: We invest heavily in our team through fair wages, continuous skill development, and a supportive workplace culture, nurturing local talent from entry-level roles into core management and artisan production.
-
Grassroots Community Support: We view our success as a shared resource. So far in 2026 alone, we have provided direct funding, products, and support to over 40 distinct community causes, schools, sports, and cultural groups across our district.
-
Shared Values & Hospitality: Our cafés serve as inclusive community gathering hubs where generosity and connection are experienced first-hand by locals and visitors alike.
Alongside the Sustainability Award, three of our Ice Creams flavours were awarded Gold Medals: Mascarpone Cheese & Fruits of the Forest, Dark Chocolate Sorbet, and Vanilla & Cookies. We were also awarded silvers for Coconut Stracciatella, Raspberry Sorbet and Apricot Sorbet.Â
Thank you to our incredible community, our dedicated team, and the NZ Ice Cream Awards judges for recognising our commitment. This trophy belongs to all of us who share a passion for doing good while tasting sweet!
